Bibliography
1. Cabrera, Nolan. "Exposing Whiteness in Higher Education: White Male College Students Minimizing Racism, Claiming Victimization, and Recreating White Supremacy."Race, Ethnicity & Education 17.1 (2014): 30-55. Web.
Nolan's article provides insight as to the proper way to interview students regarding race. Additionally, it touches on the needed education of college students on the racial inequality on campus.
2. Hughey, Matther W. "A Paradox of Participation: Nonwhites in White Sororities and Fraternities." Social Problems 57 (n.d.): 653-79. Web.
Hughey's article provided me with background information on the mentality of black students as a minority on college campuses. The study's findings touch upon the rift among minorities themselves that are created when black students join "white fraternities".
3. Ray Rashawn, and Jason Rosow. "The Two DIfferent World of Black and White Men: Visibility and Accountability as Mechanisms of Privelege." Journal of Contemporary Ethnography (2012): n. pag. Web.
Rashawn and Rosow's examination of the different worlds of black and white men on college campuses in terms of fraternity life proved to be very informative. I took two main points from the article. First, I noted the important concept of privilege and the clear disadvantages it poses for black men on a predominantly white campus. Second, the article confirmed my beliefs about impermeable fraternity boundaries.
4. McClure, Stephanie. "Voluntary Association Membership: Black Greek Men." Journal of Higher Education 77.6 (2006): 1036-057. Web.
Stephanie did a good job of describing the research behind the issues of black men assimilating to a predominantly white campus. She also touches on the differences in the functions of black and white fraternities and the reasons behind those differences.
5. "Race Relations on Campus." The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education (1999): n. pag. Web.
I plan on using this article from The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education to enumerate present-day instances of racism on college campuses. I plan to cite these instances in some interviews to educate students on racial issues and the absence of equality on campuses.
